There Are Already 16-Pin Cable Alternatives For The NVIDIA RTX 4090

Yesterday we echoed that two RTX 4090 graphics cards had burned out their 16-pin connector due to the 16-pin cable that comes standard. Specifically, the NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition and the ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming .

Are you scared with the NVIDIA RTX 4090?

It is really worrying that a graphics card like the RTX 4090 , with a cost of more than $1599 in USA, we find ourselves with this problem. As we told you yesterday, the problem was that the cable must not have a curvature from its root, we must keep it for 35 mm straight and then we can bend it. As we indicate in this image:

We found this manual on the cablemod website , but in none of the graphs that we have analyzed was it indicated how it is installed. And that we are one of the few in the world that we have been able to test up to four graphics cards of this caliber, at its launch.

What 12VHPWR cable can I use?

A few days ago the new CABLEMOD 12VHPWR cable was announced with a reinforced connector and making the perfect angle to avoid these burning problems. This cable allows us to connect it in two different positions, to cover all our needs. It is scheduled to be available on October 31 . We do not yet know the price, but we are clear that it will be in great demand.

If you have bought one of the new power supplies on the market, such as the Corsair HX1500i , you can request a cable like this for free from the manufacturer, which has worked very well in our tests:

There are also alternatives like MSI’s new MEG Ai1300P series that come with a good cable as well. Although we hope that Corsair, Be Quiet!, MSI and the rest of the power supply manufacturers will talk about this problem and its correct installation.

Our friends at Hardware Unboxed are also prototyping their own version of the cable, to provide a solution to this unusual problem. We do not know availability of this cable or what its official versions will be. They are very active on their Twitter account about it.

In short, we are clear that both NVIDIA and GPU assemblers must come forward and offer a solution at no cost to the user.

The arrival of AMD RDNA3 is near and if its performance is anything similar, AMD may have some advantage in this new generation of graphics cards. We are sure that in the next few days we will have more news about this 12VHPWR  connector and its cable alternatives. What do you think is happening with the 16-pin cable? We are waiting your comments!
