We obviously start with one of the sagas that took PS4 action shooter games to a level never seen before, thanks to well-structured campaigns and unforgettable characters.

In particular, we have decided to select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for this list, the 2019 reboot that infuriated some fans, but at the same time managed to capture the attention of many others. Without too many words, the aforementioned title takes up the story perfectly, proposing a new, more modern graphic style and undoubtedly more suitable for the new generations of consoles.

The campaign is absolutely well balanced, both in terms of the story and the difficulty and customization of weapons improves compared to the original chapter. Many new game modes have also been added, taken from previous versions, but which in any case was not present in the first Modern Warfare and which actually entertain and increase the hours of play without ever getting tired.

you haven’t played it yet, it’s one of the PS4 shooter games you absolutely must catch.

Far Cry 6perhaps represents a sort of revolution for the franchise, thanks above all to some changes that have upset the general narrative compared to the previous chapters, such as the main character actually present on the scene and also able to speak.

To season it all, however, there is still an engaging story, set in a decidedly very large map, but which at the same time turns out to be not very detailed. Among its greatest strengths we certainly find the huge amount of secondary missions to overcome, in addition to the characters, even the secondary ones, quite present and well written.

The villain is instead played by the actor Giancarlo Esposito, actually quite generic and half convincing. Maybe not the best PS4 shooter ever,

The Doom saga is undoubtedly one of the milestones of PS4 shooter video games (and not only) and with the Eternal chapter we reach an unprecedented level of balance between graphic style and technical sector.

At the base of everything there is certainly a writing that is not very original, but which in a certain sense is credited to the franchise itself. But one thing is certain: if you love to grab your controller and shoot at anything on the screen, then Doom Eternal is the game for you.

It is in fact perhaps the most faithful shooter game for PS4 to the genre, as we will only have to do this and try to do it in the best possible way.

Talk about Destiny 2it is always very difficult, mainly due to the release strategies adopted by the developers. Buying this shooter game for PS4 does not mean completing the campaign and challenging a few friends in multiplayer, but starting an adventure that in the long run may surprise as well as disappoint.

The entire game is in fact based on updates, which include characters and new challenges to overcome. Unfortunately we cannot know where the story will end and what the quality of each individual addition will be, so we can only rely on what we have at the moment.

The base game is still well laid out and definitely worth playing, and the Whispering Queen update further improves every single aspect of the story.

Perhaps many were waiting to meet this title and probably many wanted it. Borderlands 3it is undoubtedly a shooter game for PS4 that deserves to be on this list, both in terms of the very satisfying graphic style and the narration of the story, definitely of a much higher level than the previous two chapters.

On a technical level, we can certainly be very satisfied with the work done by the developers, as well as that performed on the amount of content and missions and on the improvement of the gameplay mode, very fun and extensive.

Too bad only for the game environments that are certainly very large, but which ultimately turn out to be quite empty and therefore not very detailed. A small flaw that does not affect the overall quality of the game.

This is perhaps the oldest shooter for PS4 on the list, but which we bring back in its Legendary Edition version, which basically goes back to the original title and loved by all.

Overwatch is an incredibly fun game, full of things to do and different characters, very dynamic and with fascinating colors and always the center of attention. The basic concept is very simple and that in reality does not differ much from the style of many currently more popular games, the fact is that launching into a fight against everyone is always a lot of fun, especially when bright and bright colors prevail.

In addition to the many skills, all different from each other, but never little characterized. A shooter game for PS4 to play with friends and that is sure to entertain you like never before.

For lovers of the classic genre, with a gameplay accompanied by a compelling story , full of action , but also of puzzles and suspense, the first shooter for PS4 that we propose is the latest work born from the collaboration between Sony and Naughty Dog is definitely the ideal among the shooters in circulation today.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End resumes the adventures of beloved protagonist Nathan Drake after 3 years from his last adventure (which we were able to enjoy in Uncharted 3). While in the third chapter the labors of our treasure hunter were set in the Arabian desert, Nathan’s new journey will include urban centers, snow-capped peaks and a dense jungle.

From a narrative point of view, Uncharted 4 is much more mature than the previous chapters of the saga. We were in fact used to a very simple sequential story. Venturing into this new game, we will witness inner conflicts of the protagonist that will make the videogame experience much more interesting, with truly engaging food for thought.

As the Uncharted world has accustomed us by now, the video game is not just a shooter, but includes elements of stealth and various riddles to solve . Only with attention and a bit of careful thought will you be able to reach the end of the story, which you will only reach after at least 15 hours in single player. At the end of the game you will then have infinite possibilities in multiplayer mode, among which we can mention the inevitable Team Deathmach or the control and looting sessions.

But let’s now analyze the technical details . The creators really decided to make the most of the PS4’s graphics engine. We can see a really meticulous attention to detail . We see it from the reflections, from the whiteness of the snow when it rests on the protagonist’s hair and from his soft and fluid movements, which have nothing to do with the awkwardness of which the previous chapters still sinned a little.

Stunning graphics are accompanied by truly immersive depth of sound. However, this can only be enjoyed fully through audio devices that support 5.1.

What We LikeWhat We Don’t Like

Deep and well told story
The technical sector is excellent

This further chapter of the Call Of Duty saga introduces some really captivating news for fans of the genre, but at the same time, it loses a small piece of its essence. While the gameplay of its predecessor included the possibility of following a storyline of about 8 hours, here the creators have decided to totally abandon the single player mode to totally throw themselves into the battle royale mode.

You will immediately notice that, in this new chapter of this second proposal among the best shooters for PS4, staying alive during the sessions is much more difficult. The heals themselves are no longer automatic, but can only be activated through a specific skill. The gameplay retains its frenetic essence and the continuous fighting typical of Call of Duty, but we can see some changes that require a bit more reflection to be able to implement winning strategies.

The specialists have been added to the whole, whose particular abilities allow to execute devastating blows. Their presence made it necessary to expand the maps, both in terms of extension and variety of elements.

However, the game modes are different. As you can see, the lack of single player left no holes that were difficult to fill. We find the missions Heist, Control and the more classic Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint.

The many fans of the Call of Duty saga will not see one of the elements they have most appreciated over the years taken away: this last chapter brings with it the largest zombie package ever seen, with three new campaigns set in locations to be sent goosebumps. Here Treyarch did not resist introducing the Blackout mode, in which 100 players are catapulted into a world full of pitfalls, where they will do everything to survive, in full Fortnite style.

As for the technical sector, Call Of Duty: Black Ops IIII had to sacrifice something from a graphic point of view. The textures do not have a very high quality, but it is a necessary choice given the high number of players per game and the large and very bright environments. Definitely better are the details of the models of the characters, with the metal parts perfectly reproduced and the faces of humans made excellently with motion capture.

Lots of missions and contentsThere is no single player campaign
Very fun multiplayer and zombie modes
Many customization possibilities

For lovers of the Battlefield saga it will certainly not be a novelty to once again become a fighter thrown in the middle of World War II . However, there is no shortage of novelties, as the perspective from which we observe the conflict becomes quite innovative and not very traditional, with the landscapes of Rotterdam and the Arctic mountains immersed in suggestive maps, very uncommon, which peep out through graphics exceptional .

Anyone who plays Battlefield knows it’s not just a war game. We are talking first of all about a team game, in which cooperation is fundamental. Marginal is therefore the single player mode, with a short campaign that does not even follow the story of a single character. The war stories are told in pills, through short stories that can each be completed within an hour and a half. Each story focuses on a specific place and on different characters.

The focus of the game then becomes multiplayer, based on pitched battles that can include up to a maximum of 64 players per session (32 vs 32). In this fifth chapter, a new structure has been introduced for the teams: the leader will now be able to give orders visible to all players. Performing them correctly will earn extra points with which to unlock devastating weapons. Once hit, within a limited time you can expressly ask for help from your teammates and this allows you to play longer than what happened in the previous chapters.

Character growth has been enriched with countless interesting mechanics. As you unlock the various specializations, each will have particular skills that will allow you to customize each character in a very specific way. This aspect can be well exploited if a team is well organized in its strategy.

The technical sector makes the experience truly immersive, where the simulation of a real war is king. The atmosphere is palpable thanks to a soundtrack consisting of a melancholy piano in the background that evokes all the drama of the conflict.

The environments are vast and are accompanied by extremely accurate graphic details, with a record-breaking particle complexity. A notable step forward can also be seen in the physics of explosions, with truly spectacular shock waves.

Definitely satisfying campaign

The last chapter of the Deus Ex saga , by Eidos Montréal, retains most of the characteristics of its predecessors. However, we cannot overlook the countless improvements that the successor of Huma Revolution presents.

The story opens with a short mission that serves as a tutorial, from which the actual plot then starts. You will immediately realize the possibility of facing missions by following two different types of approach. The first is characterized by action, as a classic shooter. The other ideal for all stealth lovers, in which you will have to be good at camouflaging and moving very slowly to avoid being detected by enemies.

The various choices will influence the judgment of your general conduct during missions. Everything will materialize with a different ending depending on how you have behaved in the course of history.

The possibilities of acting with the surrounding environment are endless; the advice is therefore to start leaving a lot of space for exploration. By interacting with the various objects in the game, you can get interesting insights into the plot or unlock small side missions from which to obtain weapons and useful items for your inventory.

The latter may initially appear not very capacious, but over the course of history, as you develop your equipment, you can expand it based on the improvements you choose to make. There is also a wide choice in relation to the weapons to be used: there are lethal and non-lethal ones and you can select them based on the preferred style of play or the specific situation you are about to face.

But now let’s move on to the improvements in the technical sector and the main differences with Human Revolution.

The Deus Ex series has always been characterized by a striking golden filter in photography. In Mankind Divided this has been almost completely eliminated. The choice was directed towards a color palette with a more lively and realistic look. The fluidity and the graphic rendering are perfectly combined with the power of the PS4, which makes the differences from the previous chapters even more evident.

As for the AI, it is certainly not one of the best, but that does not preclude the presence of very challenging firefights, in which it is often highly recommended to stay well covered.

We conclude the guide on the best shooters for PS4, with this little gem by Respawn Entertainment, which lands on Playstation 4 starting from the second chapter, after the prequel was released exclusively for the Microsoft universe.

The title offers an interesting single player campaign, in which you take on the role of Jack Cooper, a militiaman about to become a Pilot, a special soldier trained to lead mighty metal titans. The plot is definitely a point in favor, with a truly engaging way, in which our protagonist finds himself embroiled in a battle that leads him to become the companion of a titan different from the others, as he is equipped with artificial intelligence.

However, this is not a video game with only the storyline. As a legitimate heir to its predecessor, it possesses a highly acclaimed multiplayer playable mode. Here you will have a huge arsenal that can be upgraded and customized according to your progress.

The first Titanfall provided gameplay exclusively based on the team campaign. The storyline present in this new chapter therefore does not constitute a replacement to what was originally thought, but a very interesting addition that can only thrill the players even more.

Particularly popular is the design of the maps. Made with great care and attention to detail. The paths to follow to reach certain points are many and leave the player with a great variety of action.

In relation to the technical sector, we have incredibly smooth movements .

The only small flaw is perhaps the AI, in which we have noticed some elements that are a bit approximate. Some enemies, not only in certain cases have “forgotten” to react, but have carried out maneuvers that can be truly said to be suicidal. This lowers the general difficulty level in the sinlge player campaign.

The displeasure in this sense is not little, as the skills available to the player are very high and could guarantee a decidedly more compelling gameplay.

In any case, this does not penalize the multilayer mode in the least , in which the difference between the most experienced players and the novices is really noticeable very easily, so you will have to work seriously so that you can best support your team and lead it to victory.

The storyline is about 6 hours. Some have considered it too short but it is certainly a good compromise considering the origins more based on multiplayer.

What We LikeWhat We Don’t Like
Very fun multiplayer modeUndemanding main enemies
Deep and well-developed grassroots campaignUpdates that may or may not disappoint
Lots of customization

Conclusions

After this very rich selection of shooter games for PS4 we can certainly feel satisfied and undoubtedly full of many titles to play. We are actually certain that some of the aforementioned games have already been played and replayed by thousands of players around the world, but in case you have missed any, our advice is to recover immediately, because all will be able to tell different stories and be passionate in a unique and fun way.
