How PlayStation VR 2 Virtual Reality Will Work

Earlier this year Sony presented and then unveiled in detail the new PlayStation VR2, the virtual reality headset dedicated to PlayStation.

The market launch of the expected headset has unfortunately been postponed to 2023, but preparations continue unabated and now Sony has published a series of updates on its blog that show us what the virtual reality experience will be like on its PlayStation VR2. Let’s go and see them because they are really exciting!

Transparent view

The first feature is the transparent view, which allows you to see (but not record) your surroundings via the front cameras of the headset while wearing it, and is particularly useful when you want to check the position of the PS VR2 Sense controllers. This is possible thanks to a special function of the Card in the Control Center, which can be accessed with the function key on the display.

Broadcast during the game

The new broadcast function for PS VR2 allows you to film yourself while you play, by connecting an HD camera to the PS5 console.

Custom play area

No more broken TVs or chandeliers and ruinous falls. The PS VR2 play area can be customized using the PS VR2 Sense controllers and built-in cameras. This feature is really exciting: the cameras allow you to scan the room.

While with the PS VR2 Sense controllers you can further expand and customize the play area to suit your style and surroundings.

If during the game you approach the set boundary, you will receive a warning so you will know that you are near the boundary of the play area. Once the play area is configured, your settings will be saved unless you move to a different play area. Of course, you can change the settings at any time while PS VR2 is connected.

VR mode

In VR Mode, players can enjoy VR game content with a 360 ° view in a virtual environment.

The contents will be displayed in  4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye)  with a frame rate of 90 Hz / 120 Hz.

Cinema mode

In Theater Mode, players can view the user interface and the PS5 system, as well as all multimedia content and non-VR games, on a large virtual screen. Cinema Mode content is displayed in 1920 × 1080 HDR video format with frame rates of 24/60 Hz and 120 Hz.

Sony is working on much more news and will be sharing new updates shortly, including – very important – the launch date and upcoming games, so stay tuned!
