NVIDIA's RTX 4080: Where To Buy On Launch Day

The launch of the new graphics cards RTX 4080 And 4090 accounted for NVIDIA an important confirmation of their abilities, with the 4090 that represents for the moment the benchmark of the sector, in terms of price and performance.

For the RTX 4080 however, launched in two versions, 16 GB and 12 GB of video memory, not everything went the right way, at least from the point of view of marketing. The problem lies in the strongly criticized name of the more “economic” model, so much so that in a post one month after its launch the same NVIDIA announced that he has it retreat:

NVIDIA RTX 4080 12GB UnLaunched
NVIDIA RTX 4080 12GB UnLaunched

Actually, the RTX 4080 12 GB does not differ from the superior model only in the amount of memory, but also in the power and this is what sparked the chorus of protests from fans.

The GPU is indeed equipped with

  • 7,680 CUDA cores
  • Base clock: 2.31 GHz
  • Boost clock: 2.61 GHz
  • 639 Tensor-TFLOP
  • 92 RT-TFLOP
  • 40 Shader-TFLOP

Impressive numbers, but they pale in comparison to those of RTX 4080 16 GB equipped with a 9.728 CUDA core, a base clock of 2.21 GHz, a boost clock of 2.51 GHz, 780 Tensor-TFLOP, 113 RT-TFLOP, and 49 Shader-TFLOP.

Two such different models with the same name didn’t make much sense, so the news that the card might not come quite unexpectedly re-enters the market with another wording. The known leaker kopite7kimi one of the most active and trusted in the industry, in a Tweet fact states that NVIDIA will re-propose the card with the name of RTX 4070 Ti and to whom has hypothesized a launch for January 2023 replied with a thumb up.

At this point, everything will be played on the front of prices, where competition is increasingly fierce. Recall that NVIDIA presented the RTX 4080 at 1,109 and 1,479 dollars (12 GB and 16 GB), prices that in the United States are 899 and 1,199 dollars respectively (the 16 GB RTX 4080 will hit the market next week).

But now with the new ones RX 7900 XTX and XT from AMD (999 and 899 dollars) which will arrive on December 13th, things do complicate.

It is unlikely that NVIDIA will launch an RTX 4070 Ti for a price higher than one RX 7900 XT which, according to the benchmarks, is superior to it in every respect. We will see what happens, what is certain is that now the world of GPU also thanks to the arrival of Intelis experiencing an exciting time of growth and competition from which consumers can only benefit.
