Nvidia has canceled the 12GB RTX 4080 model, a decision that appears to have been made in haste. The manufacturing partners already had all the packaging (boxes) ready to start marketing them, but the cancellation makes this material useless, so they are losses for the manufacturers.
RTX 4080 12 GB: Nvidia Is Going To Refund Partners
Board members will be reimbursed by Nvidia for the cost of packaging the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB. This information has emerged from Gamers Nexus, which ensures that there are two partners who have confirmed that Nvidia is willing to pay for the cancellation of the RTX 4080 12 GB graphics card, at least when it comes to packaging.
It’s unclear if Nvidia will only cover the packaging costs or if it will also include other costs, such as labor. What we know is that these boxes cannot be used in any final product.
What is unknown is what will happen with these graphics cards with 12 GB of memory. These models could be relabeled so that the GPUs have another name, such as an RTX 4070 Ti or RTX 4070, or simply these models will be forgotten and sold in the markets.
This is not the first time that Nvidia has canceled models before launch, the same thing happened with the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB. In the end, a single model with 12GB was released, although later the 20GB model was seen on the Russian market. We will keep you up to date with the news of the RTX 40 series.
