Common questions

SnipClip isn’t capturing my screen. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, and make sure SnipClip is enabled. macOS requires this permission before any app can capture the screen.

The global hotkey doesn’t work. Check Preferences in the SnipClip menu bar item — the capture shortcut can be changed there if it conflicts with another app.

Where are my screenshots saved? SnipClip copies captures straight to your clipboard by default. You can also save as PNG or JPEG from the markup editor.

Where do timed captures and screen recordings get saved? Timed full-screen captures open a save panel so you pick the location and format (PNG or JPEG) each time, then also copy to your clipboard and appear in Recent Captures — they don’t open the markup editor afterward, since they’re meant for straight-to-file capture. Screen recordings save as .mp4 to a folder you choose in Preferences — that folder is remembered across launches, and SnipClip reveals the finished file in Finder as soon as you stop recording.

My scrolling capture cut off, or looks glitchy. Scrolling Capture is capped at 12,000px tall — it auto-finishes if you hit that. It works by watching pixels in your selected region as you scroll, so most windows, webpages, and long documents stitch together cleanly, but very unusual layouts or animated/video content can occasionally confuse it. Try a shorter scroll pass, or fall back to a regular capture for that content.
